Step by step video here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rkhvkj…

This animation was born from a random boredom-drawing of Auros running, and I thought it would be a nice starting frame for a running cycle animation  So this happened.

I still see a few mistakes, but that's the best I can do for now :XD: I've been on this thing for DAYS and now I probably lost what was left of my brain cells. But it was worth it. THE FUN.
And I promised myself I wouldn't shade this...But listening to awesome music changed my mind.

Try to guess what was the biggest pain to animate here. The wings? The tail tuft? Nope.
IT WAS HER BELLY/TAIL STRIPES. ARGH.

I still remember the last run cycle I made back in 2011... fourth-star.deviantart.com/art… and that I was pleased with is back then. now all I'm thinking is  *pterodactyl shriek* HOW COULD I POST THIS HORROR, I AM ITCHING TO DELETE IT

Animating is officially as fun as it is tiring. I'm actually sad I finished this ;-;

I need hot chocolate now.

Time taken: Idon'tevenwanttoknow.
14 frames (looped twice for the blinking)
Drawn in PS CS5, frames put together in Macromedia Flash 8.

I noticed that her front paws get abnormally small once they're in the air, like, disproportionally so. But other than that, it looks great!

I imagine that you have a lot of patience, to redraw similar features over and over. :O The animation is quite stunning. ^^ I love that you paid attention to seemingly-minor details, like the gentle bob of the tail tip, the stretching and contracting of the neck, the wing movement etc. Awesome work!

Wow, she really looks amazing. :D Her front feet seem to get bigger once they touch the ground, and her belly looks a bit fat when her feet are outstretched; but your work is ever unbelievably amazing. :iconenrapturedplz: You have obviously worked incredibly hard at this for a long time, and it has really paid off.

Ahhh where did you get flash? I have been itching to get it but the only thing I can animate is Photoshop. If I wanted to animate things in there it's going to be super sketchy. Oh well I'll wait for my new tablet when this one breaks down. It has a good animation program I heard

if I wanted to guess what the hardest thing for you to animate was, I'm going to guess it was either the hind legs, or all the legs :3

was I right? O.o

Yay! It looks really great and you even colored and shaded the whole thing! :la:

I could spend a very long time pointing out parts I love, but I try a little to help add tiny bit of critique to my comments to be helpful if you want to hear some. I guess for this the first thing I noticed was that it seems to lack the other wing. I know you draw a lot of pictures like this just because it could easily be hiding behind the first wing, but in a walk or run cycle I would expect to see the back wing at least appear a few times with the "wrist" part when they lurch forward and the longest "finger" tips behind the other wing as it moves up and down. It would probably not be too much work to add at least a darker silhouette of them.

Another critique that may be more personal preference in that the claws on his feet are not really digging into the ground or laying flat with each step, most notably with the long curved claws on the back feet. I am sure animating each toe would be a big pain, but for extra realism you could try to curl them down more and treat the claws as functional cleats that dig into the ground if needed for a very strong grip. I guess I tend to always use my claws too much personally though because I love climbing trees and holding myself down in strong winds, but I suppose dragons could be designed with claws being for looks and hunting only more like cats than birds if you prefer each step to keep the claws off the ground. It still looks like that back toe is almost uncomfortably twisted up, but perhaps if I freeze framed the animation it could be a part of the character's design instead of an animation flaw.

That is all I can really think of. The rest looks super fluid and realistic to me. The picture seems a little jumpy because there are not a ton of frames, but speeding it up is the only way to solve that without wasting a lot of time drawing more frames and that would probably start to make the character look unrealistically fast if you sped it up much more so this feels about right. Hopefully she drank a lot of water because I would be pretty dehydrated after running like that for this long. Maybe she stops running when no one is watching this picture O.o

Oh, I hope you had a great Christmas! :santa: I forgot to say that on Christmas, so I will do it here since this comment is too long anyway! :dummy:
